Salad Days

As Shakespeare had Cleopatra say "My salad days, When I was green in judgment"

Salad is my steady lunch staple. It's easy, fast, tasty, healthy, inexpensive, beautiful to look at and you can throw just about anything in there.
Today my box has little crunchy crispy sweet peppers, cashews, mixed greens, baby arugula, creamy gorgonzola and a pumpkin seed roll.

Adding any protein gives more bulk: use leftovers (like cold chicken) or fry up an egg, add cheeses (feta, swiss, mozzarella...pick a favorite). Nuts are another good source of protein, fats and minerals.
For more zip a quick vinaigrette or simple drizzle of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon brightens it up even more.

Food is Love

Or, as my youngest son says: Food is Epic!

Is there anything that so satisfies our every bodily need as food? It is sensual, heady, fills the nose, delights the eye. It  comforts, nourishes, thrills and sates. Food heals and sustains us. It can be exciting, a never before experienced flavor, or a dear flavor from the past. It can bring tears to our eyes...tears of joy and tears of pain.
Nothing brings people together like a shared feast, from a tiny morsel straight from the pan to the most elaborate holiday feast. Nothing makes us pause and close our eyes in pure pleasure. Nothing thrills a parent like watching a child eat. Nothing delights a cook more than sharing the bounty arising from the steamy depths of one's pots and pans.
This blog is dedicated to the passion that food is, to demystifying the hidden treasures, to opening your minds and taste buds to all the adventure that is just waiting to be sampled and savored.
